I'm still not clear on Pacific Crest's status. Are they touring as a Div. II? I know they got an exemption for Quarterfinals, but will they still be competing in the D2/3 Finals?

Anyways...

Division II:
1. Pacific Crest
2. Spartans
3. Revolution
4. Esperanza
5. East Coast Jazz

Division III:
1. Blue Stars
2. Marion Glory Cadets
3. Yamato
4. Allegiance Elite
5. Americanos

Pacific Crest WILL be competing as a Div 1 corps in 2003.

TD

BTW Not good things happening in NH this year. Most of the guard is gone to Cadets, etc. Brass section is very youg, pit is even younger. Should be a re-building year for them.

Surf is HUGE! 50+ brass and a very talented staff, hope the show isn't
too A. D.D. Questions about the new guard staff. They might pull it all together & win, or may have a tough time cleaning and wind up 5th

Patriots are also much larger than in recent years, with a bunch of brass coming from Indy. They need to beef up the program to compete again at the upper echelon.

ECJ looks like it will be larger and more mature (percussion section) than last few years. They had a good brass sound last year and seem to have corrected the guard issues that killed them.

Esperanza needs to play better than 02 to make a run at the top. Heard the brass line is young but large. New brass arranger should help.

As much as I love Impulse, they will never win, just like the velvet knights. Judges will never give a corps like Impluse a score they deserve.

Judges reward excellence. Impulse has neither played nor marched well. They can be entertaining but fail to achieve points. If GE is their bailiwick, do not forget there are 3 components to effect - intellectual, esthetic and emotional. As a rule Impulse only achieves 1/3 - 1/2 of their potential here. Until their written program is more logical, they will suffer.

From all of the press coming out of their organization it seems that they are trying to correct that.

VK had years (87-88) where they were a good "drum corps" as well as being humorous. In those years they placed commensurate with their on field performance.

On the other hand, Jersey Surf took a step in this direction in 2002 and succeeded because they had a better written program. When their performers were brought up to pseed and the show became read-able they clicked with both judges and audiences alike.
