Bushwackers Making Progress
Wildwood Weekend - Indoor championships weekend when the many talented members of various drum corps finish out their indoor seasons as members or instructors.
Yes, this was Wildwood weekend, and many of our Bushwacker brothers and sisters were in the popular shore town with various color guards and drum lines. We'll have a full report on how all of their groups did soon. I believe we have more than one championship to brag about! Congrats to all of you!
One of the pitfalls of having such a talented drum corps is that you always will be missing a bunch of people on Wildwood weekend. It's a long standing Bushwacker tradition, however, that those who can attend rehearsal come ready to work and set the bar high...requiring those who were not there to step up to the challenge.
That is exactly what happened!
Much progress was made on the 2007 production of "Around the Town" this weekend, with most of our attention was focused on the latter half of part 1 - "Galop". This section is very technical and fast, with double tonguing and many different varieties of articulation and dynamics. The horn line and drums spent nearly all day in sectionals getting it together and cleaning. We ended the day with a "tracking" session on our new GRASS rehearsal field in Franklin, NJ. It was a very positive and productive day, and the weather couldn't have been nicer!
Josh Cohen, our brass captain, said, "The work ethic....all I can say is wow. These members are just taking the info that is given to them and asking for more. You can tell there is a definite excitement in the air, and it's quite contagious ."
The brass and drums traveled to New York City, the subject of our 2007 show, to participate in the Salute to Israel parade. While the indoor championships in Wildwood may have resulted in smaller numbers, it certainly didn't effect the sound and presence of the drum corps and our uncanny ability to sound twice our size. The day was nice, many of the people were friendly, and we ended the weekend on a high note.
The corps' next rehearsal will be held this Saturday, May 12th at 10am at the Franklin Elementary School field. Click here for directions. This is a FULL CORPS REHEARSAL! We are excited to welcome back our color guard following the indoor championships in Wildwood! The corps will have off on Sunday due to Mother's Day.
The Bushwackers are the six time DCA world champions, a top 3 finalist each of the last 2 seasons, and the defending brass and colorguard champions. The corps is still accepting members in all sections. If you have the desire, YOU can be a Bushwacker. Just come out to a rehearsal, go to www.bushwackers.org, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details on how to have the best summer of your life!
